Mammal - 化石下顎骨 - Chleuastochoerus brevirostris

Up for sale is a rare and relatively complete prehistoric pig-like animal Chleuastochoerus brevirostris from late Miocene deposits in Linxia basin, Gansu, China! C. brevirostris was an extinct pig species from the late Miocene of eastern Asia. It belonged to a small endemic lineage of fossil suids known from northern China and neighboring regions of Russia. Fossil evidence suggests that this animal had a short skull, primitive dentition, and a digging-adapted snout, indicating a lifestyle different from that of modern pigs. Its teeth and skull shape imply a diet of relatively soft food and a habitat near humid forest edges or open steppe environments The fauna surrounding Chleuastochoerus brevirostris formed part of the Miocene mammal assemblages of eastern Eurasia, when many modern mammal groups were becoming recognizable and spreading across the continent. It included a mix of herbivores such as primitive pigs, giraffoids, deer‑like animals, and proboscideans, alongside carnivores like hyaenids and early felids, living in a mosaic of subtropical forests, woodlands, and open grasslands. This fauna reflects a transitional phase between earlier, more archaic Miocene communities and the modern‑style mammal faunas of the Pliocene and Pleistocene, capturing an important stage in the diversification of African‑Eurasian mammal lineages. —————————— The size measurements of this item is around 24 x 19.5 cm/9.65 x 7.68 inches, with some repairs and matrix restorations ~3%. For shipping, the Chunghwa post (the official post of Taiwan) will be used to carry the item worldwide. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions in mind!
