Napoleon 111 Empire bed linen with initials M.T.P., made in France, linen, 3 m by 2 m, white, dating to 1850–1900 and in as new condition.
Description from the seller
This bed linen is a new for me.
I have only witnessed on two occasions 3 initials, but never seen
these kind of red and blue initials.
The French Bourgeoisie family , of which this and one other similar bed linen came from,
have no idea where they came from. It certainly has never decked their beds in the many bed rooms.
Also there is no mention in the "inventory ledger" where every and each item was always carefully recorded.
The couple can only guess and their belief is that they were embroidered by the sewing staff for their own use at the staff quarters. These were on the third floor and I had the privilege of visiting them. recently/ There were 15 in all and they appeared to look like prison cells. There was no sitting room as their lives were in the kitchen, pantry and sewing room and after serving the evening dinner, it was clearing up and going to bed and to get up again at 5.30.
It is above all a very interesting bed linen and the initials M.T.P. are beautifully embroidered .
The blue piece is embroidered over the red embroidery and creates an interesting effect.
Would it not be interested if a bidder fits the 3 initials.
