Georgia - Medal - Order of Queen Tamara

An Order Of Queen Tamara breast star. In silvered tombak, with bronze gilt and blue enamelled insignia, measuring 78 mm x 78 mm, extremely fine condition. The Order of Queen Tamara was a Georgian military decoration granted to members of the Georgian Legion and of the German Caucasus Expedition, who fought in Georgia after November 4, 1918. The official criterion, proclaimed by General Zakhari Mdivani, the Georgian Minister of War, stated: "For merits in Georgia herewith all officers and enlisted men of the German troops in the Caucasus, which remained in Georgia after November 4, 1918, have the right to wear the Order of Saint Tamara." The Order awards were designed by German Lieutenant Horst Schliephack. For all varieties of the Tamara, the only official presentation was the paperwork. Recipients had to purchase their own stars wherever or whenever possible. The majority were manufactured privately in Germany. Hence therefore there are many design variations within this Order, due to the fact that it was produced by many private manufacturers. There was an estimated 1,400-5,000 produced. Despite widespread assertions, the only official decree never included classes. However, the medals marketed by Paul Meybauer of Berlin (who hit upon the clever ploy of offering different versions), were offered as "1st Class" with blue enamel for officers, "2nd class" with a gilt central disk for NCOs and the plain all gray "3rd Class" for privates. Will be carefully packaged and shipped with Track & Trace.
