日本の萩焼 六角茶碗 – テンギュ窯 – 署名入りの友箱 - Ceramic - Japan - 20th century
This distinctive Japanese Hagi ware tea bowl was created at the Tengyu Kiln and is accompanied by its original signed wooden storage box.
Unlike conventional round tea bowls, this work features a carefully hand-shaped hexagonal form. The six-sided silhouette introduces subtle rhythm and movement to the vessel, creating changing visual impressions from every viewing angle. Such shaping requires considerable skill and control during both forming and firing, making pieces of this type particularly appealing to tea practitioners and collectors.
The bowl is covered in a soft warm beige glaze with gentle transitions of cream, honey, and light earth tones. Fine crackling and natural kiln effects appear throughout the surface, reflecting the aesthetic qualities traditionally associated with Hagi ware. The exposed clay around the foot further enhances its rustic character and wabi-sabi atmosphere.
The slightly undulating rim, substantial body, and expressive foot construction provide an excellent tactile experience when held during tea preparation.
Presented together with its original signed wooden box, this piece represents a refined example of contemporary Japanese Hagi ceramics suitable for tea ceremony use, collection, or display.
