Islamic アゲート 貴族の胸像が刻まれた印章 (No reserve price)

Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid. Antique Islamic - Ottoman Empire agate domed seal. The face of the seal is engraved with a finely detailed bust of a bearded male or high ranking official. He is shown in profile with a rounded cap-like headdress or stylised coiffure, with a small vertical symbolic motif or pseudo-inscription before the face.. The domed form is polished and is pierced to allow for suspension. -> Agate and chalcedony were valued for their hardness, smooth surface, and translucent appearance. These stones allowed fine engraving and were often selected for seals, amulets, and personal ornaments. Size: ± 26 x 22,5 mm Condition: good solid condition. The engraved bust remains clearly visible. Minor surface irregularities and signs of wear consistent with age and use. Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format) for sale price of € 100 or more. -> Engraved stone seals were widely used in the ancient world for personal identification, ownership, and authentication. When pressed into clay or wax, the engraved design produced an impression that could mark documents, containers, or goods. -> Busts and profile heads were common subjects on seals and intaglios. They could represent rulers, deities, mythological figures, ancestors, or symbolic personal images, depending on the cultural context and the owner’s identity.
