Mesopotamian Terracotta 粘土のプレート - 60 mm

Mesopotamian plaque around 2000–1800 BCE. They were made from clay using molds, which allowed the same designs to be reproduced multiple time. This one depicting god adad (god of weather and storm), who always stand on back of the cow, and both of them are stand on back of imdugud. In the Sumerian and Assyrian periods, imdugud was considered a symbol of royal power and heavenly force.In Mesopotamia, people prayed more to the storm and thunder god during dry seasons. In some ancient images, Imdugud is shown above two lions or beside symbols of storm power, because it represented the wild force of nature and the divine power of the sky. Provenance: This Clay plaque belongs to a USA collector who bought it in 1986 from another USA collector who achieved it gifted in 1983. The seller can prove that the lot obtained legally.
