Russia. 100 wire coins 1535-1717
Large and attractive collection of 100 genuine Russian silver wire kopecks (Chechuyki) dating from the 16th–17th centuries, struck during the period of the Tsardom of Russia.
These historic hammered silver coins were produced from small pieces of silver wire that were cut, flattened and struck between dies, creating the characteristic irregular shape that has made Russian wire money highly collectible.
The lot contains a diverse selection of silver kopecks with a variety of visible legends, horseman designs, and different die types. Many coins retain readable Cyrillic inscriptions and identifiable design elements. The collection includes examples in a wide range of conditions, providing excellent study and attribution potential.
Several coins exhibit historical circulation wear, while others show stronger details and clearer legends. Some pieces feature old suspension holes, reflecting their historical use and adding to their character.
An excellent opportunity for collectors of Russian numismatics, medieval and early modern coinage, hammered silver issues, or for specialists seeking varieties and ruler attributions within a large group.
