Ancient Earth — 信楽鉄釉花瓶(耳ボス付き) - Stoneware - Japan - 1900年-2000年

Item Description A sculptural stoneware vase crafted in the tradition of Japanese Shigaraki-ware (信楽焼), one of Japan's celebrated Six Ancient Kilns with over a millennium of history. This elegant piece features a tall, ovoid body with gently ridged horizontal throwing lines that trace the rhythm of the potter's wheel, conveying a raw, earthy vitality deeply rooted in the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic. The vase is covered in a rich iron-brown glaze with naturally scattered gold-ochre speckles, evoking the ancient beauty of wood-fired kiln atmospheres. Several small circular applied clay bosses adorn the shoulder of the vessel, a classic decorative motif in Japanese ceramic tradition referencing ancient jar forms. The mouth is distinctly shaped in an irregular, slightly ovoid opening that adds sculptural character and visual movement to the piece. The interior is glazed in deep black, creating a dramatic contrast with the warm earth tones of the exterior. The flat base bears the artist's impressed seal mark reading "Kozan" (孝山), associated with a Japanese ceramic artist working in the Shigaraki tradition. This vase is a fine example of the enduring spirit of Japanese functional art — where vessel form and raw material beauty become one. Size Height: 24 cm Width: 11 cm Depth: 10 cm Weight 941 g Condition The vase is in good overall condition with age-appropriate surface variations consistent with its hand-crafted, kiln-fired nature; no chips, cracks, or structural damage are observed. NOTICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
