タイノ翡翠玉像 – ドミニカ共和国 – 西暦10世紀から15世紀
精巧に彫られたタイノ族の翡翠玉像で、立つ人形のような anthropomorphic な姿が特徴的な顔立ち、力強い脚部、胸の前で腕を組んだ姿を描いています。彫像は、グレーターカリブ諸島のタイノ族に特有の、象徴的な比率と精神的象徴性を示しており、この種の像は祖霊の化身、守護霊、崇敬されるゼミスとして用いられてきました。豊かな緑色の翡翠玉と古代の表面摩耗、緻密な職人技が組み合わさり、カリブ海地域の前コロンブス期の宝石彫刻美術を印象的に表現しています。
