Antique Meiji–Taisho period Japanese complete kushi and kanzashi hair ornament set with gold maki-e and raden decorations, housed in a lacquered wooden box, including a large kushi (10 cm), kogai (17 cm), two kanzashi sets and seven red coral beads, in good condition with age-related wear.

Antique Japanese Complete Kushi & Kanzashi Hair Ornament Set — Maki-e Gold Lacquer, Raden, Lacquered Wooden Box
A rare and complete set of Japanese hair ornaments presented in its original lacquered wooden box, acquired from a private collection in Kyoto, Japan.
This exceptional set comprises multiple pieces unified by fine maki-e (gold lacquer) and raden (mother-of-pearl) decoration:
Kushi (hair comb) — large format, decorated with chrysanthemum and fan motifs in gold maki-e and raden on black lacquer ground with distinctive red lacquer stripe banding. A bold and striking design.
Kogai (hair pin) — warm amber-toned lacquer ground with gold maki-e floral and leaf motifs with small raden accent.
Kanzashi pair — tortoiseshell-pattern pins with red coral-colored ball ornaments.
Kanzashi pair — brass pins with red coral-colored ball ornaments.
Kushi (hair comb) — black lacquer with simple gold maki-e floral vine motif.
Red coral-colored decorative beads — seven beads on original cord, housed in separate compartment.
Original lacquered wooden box with blue fabric-lined interior tray, multi-compartment layout. Box shows age-appropriate wear; contents in good antique condition.
Dimensions: Kushi 10 cm (height), Kogai 17 cm (length), Box 23.5 cm (width).
Acquired from a private collection in Kyoto, Japan. Consistent with Meiji—Taisho period production, circa 1900—1920.
