Title: Large Double-Wall Pierced Goryeo Celadon Ruffled Vase with Twin Beast Handles, With Original Tomobako Box Ware Type: Goryeo Celadon (高麗青磁) Artist: Shen Runxing (沈潤興), Workshop Name: Kousei Tougei (光成陶藝) Dimensions: H 29 cm (11.42 in) × Max Diameter approx. 18 cm (7.09 in) Weight: 2015 g Tomobako Box Dimensions: H 29 cm (11.42 in) × W 19.8 cm (7.80 in) × D 19.8 cm (7.80 in) Material: High-fired stoneware clay, jade celadon crackle glaze Period: Contemporary, circa 2010–2020 production This ornamental vase is handcrafted by Shen Runxing (沈潤興) from Kousei Tougei (光成陶藝), a ceramic artist specialising in recreating traditional Goryeo celadon craftsmanship. Goryeo Celadon (高麗青磁) carries a thousand-year ceramic heritage and represents the iconic ceramic art of the Korean Peninsula. It is renowned across East Asia for its jade-toned celadon glaze, natural ice crackle craquelure, and highly complex double-wall pierced carving technique. Shen Runxing has spent years mastering authentic Goryeo celadon reproduction, focusing on the technically demanding double-wall lattice pierced craft. This complicated firing method has an extremely low yield rate, making finished intact pieces rare. He specialises in recreating the glaze texture and classic forms of antique Goryeo celadon, with precise, delicate carving and authentic vintage aesthetic quality. The entire vessel is coated in uniform jade celadon glaze featuring natural inherent ice crackle craquelure, delivering a soft, translucent finish. It has a gently undulating ruffled flower mouth; the tapered neck is fitted with a pair of symmetric sculpted mythical beast handles with simple, rounded antique styling. The bulbous midsection is the technical highlight of the piece, built with a separated double inner liner fully decorated with interlocking diamond lattice piercing. The perforated lattice remains intact, unwarped and free of deformation. Thin plain concentric rings create a smooth transition between the unadorned shoulder and foot base, forming a striking contrast between solid and hollow decorative areas. Interlocking lattice patterns symbolise lasting prosperity and endless fortune, while mythical beast motifs stand for peace and good luck. Its grand, balanced silhouette makes this a remarkable collectible studio ceramic work. The base bears hand-brushed two-character mark "Kousei (光成)" paired with the artist’s square personal seal, the official hallmark of the Kousei Tougei workshop. The original paulownia tomobako storage box features vertical handwritten calligraphy "Kousei Tougei (光成陶藝), Shen Runxing (沈潤興)" on its exterior, stamped with a red rectangular seal reading "Saku (作)", signifying hand-made by the artist. The vase’s marks fully match the box’s inscription, offering complete, verifiable provenance. A soft yellow storage cloth is included, forming a complete matching set of vase and original wooden box. As a hand-fired ceramic stored over years, the glaze retains its original crackle texture with faint minor surface wear consistent with its production age. The pierced lattice has no chips, nicks or missing fragments; the glaze stays intact and glossy, without firing cracks, splits or restorations. Overall condition is good relative to its production period.
