About the Artist

Nakazato Tarouemon is one of the most distinguished names in the history of Karatsu ware, a traditional style of Japanese pottery with over 400 years of history. The Nakazato family has preserved and developed the Karatsu ceramic tradition through successive generations.

The 14th Nakazato Tarouemon was designated an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Saga Prefecture and was highly respected for revitalizing traditional Karatsu techniques while creating works admired for their refined craftsmanship and expressive natural glazes. His ceramics are appreciated by collectors, tea ceremony practitioners, and museums both in Japan and internationally.
