釈迦牟尼仏『地を踏む(Touching the Earth)』に囲まれて - ディステンパー/鉱物顔料を用いた綿キャンバス - China - Late 20th century

Description: An authentic, highly narrative, and richly detailed antique Tibetan Thangka painting on canvas, depicting the historical Buddha, Shakyamuni, in a classic assembly scene. Iconography & Composition: The Central Figure: Buddha Shakyamuni is seated in the center atop a lotus throne, his right hand extended in the Bhūmisparśa mudrā (Earth Witness / Subduing Mara gesture), and his left hand resting in his lap in meditation posture. He is backed by a circular reddish halo and a black aura radiating fine linear light. Surrounding Assembly: The Buddha is surrounded by an extensive gathering of his main disciples (Arhats), bodhisattvas, and celestial guardians. Mythological Details: The upper register features beautifully rendered Makaras (mythological sea-dragon creatures) and celestial Gandharvas (flying apsaras/heavenly musicians) playing stringed instruments (like the Pipa/Ruan) amidst rainbow-colored light and stylized clouds. The lower register illustrates sacred stupas, lotus ponds, and groups of processing monks. Technique & Materials: Hand-painted with traditional mineral pigments (including cinnabar red, malachite green, and azurite blue) on a prepared cotton canvas substrate. The color palette is deep and solemn, characteristic of historic regional masterwork.
