Bronze Age Bronze 先頭 (No reserve price)
A fine Bronze Age bronze spearhead featuring a leaf-shaped blade. The blade displays rounded, upwards-sloping shoulders, from which it tapers regularly to a sharp point. A subtle central midrib runs down the centre of the blade and leads to a long flat tang. The bottom of the tang is curved creating a loop for suspension. Patination and earthy encrustations to the surface, alongside minor chipping to the edges of the blade.
In ancient times a number of nomadic populations, such as the Medes and the Kassites, settled in the area. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Excavated items often included weapons, tools, and finials, as well as small amulets and fittings. Everyday objects are also found including pins and bracelets. Their artwork mainly comprises ornaments, vessels and weapons. Archaeological evidence suggests that the bronze objects often serve ceremonial functions given their funerary contexts.
Measurements: (circa) L 16.6cm x W 1.9cm
