A Taino Stone Zemí (Idol) in Diorite, Dominican Relublic, 10th to 15th Century A.D. Powerful and finely carved diorite stone zemí with a characteristic stylized anthropomorphic/frog-like form. The piece features a broad head with incised facial details, prominent eyes and mouth, and a body adorned with geometric and symbolic motifs. The hard dark diorite has a smooth, polished surface with attractive natural patina. Zemíes carved in diorite are among the most important ritual objects of the Taino culture, used for spiritual protection, ancestor veneration and shamanic ceremonies. Height: 10.8 cm. Width: 8.2 cm.
