A refined lacquered wood suzuribako of truncated pyramidal form, decorated in raised maki-e with mother-of-pearl (raden) applications depicting a floral motif with leaves and autumn grasses. The surface treatment enhances the natural wood grain, integrated with elements in gold and silver lacquer. The interior contains a suzuri (ink stone) and a painted ceramic suiteki (water dropper). Complete with wooden box (tomobako). Japanese lacquerware (漆器, shikki) represents one of Japan’s most celebrated artistic traditions.
