ツチョクウェ族(チョクウェ族)保護用仮面 – アンゴラ、ルンダ・ノルテ州 – およそ1965–1975年 - 儀式用の仮面 - Chokwe (Tchokwe) - Angola

Traditional wooden ceremonial mask acquired in Angola during a collecting trip and purchased directly from a local collector in the Lunda Norte region. According to the local collector from whom it was acquired, the mask belongs to the Tchokwe (Chokwe) cultural tradition and served as a protection mask. The estimated age provided at the time of purchase was approximately 50–60 years. The mask is carved from a single piece of wood and displays the balanced facial features characteristic of Tchokwe carving. It retains its original woven fibre coiffure and textile hood, both showing natural ageing and long-term use. The interior construction, including the original fabric lining and plant fibre reinforcement, remains intact. The wooden surface has developed an attractive natural patina over time. Age-related wear, minor cracks and traces of use are present and consistent with the estimated age of the object. These are part of its authenticity and are clearly visible in the photographs. The mask was acquired directly in Angola and has remained in a private European collection since then. Approximate dimensions: Height (including fibre coiffure): 26 cm Width: 22 cm Depth: 24 cm Please examine all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description.
