Item Description Takaoka Bronze Octagonal Flower Vase by 鳳洲 Hōshū – 昭和時代 Showa Period Cast using the techniques of Takaoka Copperware (Takaoka Dōki), a craft tradition spanning over 400 years in Toyama Prefecture and the first craft in Japan to be designated a National Traditional Craft in 1975, this bronze flower vase (hanaire) combines casting, chasing, and patination techniques in a single piece. The octagonal body is decorated with a floral motif and a lattice pattern, giving the surface a shifting appearance depending on the viewing angle. The bronze surface carries a restrained, substantial presence characteristic of fine Takaoka metalwork. The base is signed by the artist Hōshū (鳳洲). Showa period.
