Description :
This small terracotta cup is an interesting example of Gallo-Roman utilitarian pottery. Made from an orange to light brown clay, slightly micaceous and speckled with fine mineral inclusions, it has an elegant shape characterized by a globular body, a strongly narrowed neck, and a wide, flared rim forming a shallow basin. Its balanced profile is typical of common wares produced in the provinces of Roman Gaul between the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, intended for domestic or religious use.
The old collection label accompanying the object reads: “Small pinkish earthenware cup, broken foot, globular body, It may be intended for storing medications or eye drops (?). Period: Gallo-Roman, 1st–2nd century AD. This old identification corresponds well to the piece's state of preservation. The original ring foot is now missing, revealing an old and stable break, while the rest of the cup is preserved in very good archaeological condition.
No modern restoration has been observed apart from the old loss of the foot.
