Pre-Revolution Cuban Cigar Humidor – “La Escepcion de José Gener” – F. Palicio y Cia. S.A. – Havana, Cuba – 1950s General Description: An exceptional and rare vintage Cuban cigar humidor case from the glorious pre-revolution era (1950s) This heavy solid wood cabinet was manufactured in Havana for the premium brand “La Escepcion”, a historic brand of extreme refinement founded by the legendary tobacco magnate José Gener The brand was permanently closed in the 1980s, which adds a certain historical value to this piece The interior is made entirely of genuine, unvarnished Spanish cedar wood (Cedrela odorata), which still retains its unmistakable characteristic aroma today, having the technical role of naturally regulating humidity The cedar inner base presents the original factory text complete and extremely well preserved. It includes the official endorsement of the company "F. Palicio y Cia. S.A." (the legal owners of the brand in the 1940s-1950s) and the official customs guarantee stamps of the Cuban government. The upper lacquered wooden lid features the iconic circular logo of the brand, finely printed in gold leaf. On the outer back of the box is the original stamp hot-applied directly into the depth of the wood: "MADE IN HAVANA-CUBA" This marking in English demonstrates that the piece was part of an elite batch intended exclusively for export to the luxury markets of the USA or Great Britain, before the nationalization of the factories in 1959. Technical Data Sheet: Manufacturer: F. Palicio y Cia. S.A. / José Gener (Havana, Cuba) Period of Manufacture: Circa 1950–1958 (Pre-Castro Era). Materials: Exotic hardwood exterior (reddish lacquer finish), porous Spanish cedar interior, original solid brass hardware. Construction: High-class traditional joinery, with visible finger-joints at the corners to prevent structural warping. Side Inscriptions: Original factory engraving “Humidor No. 2 / Patente No. 13555” on the side profile. Detailed Condition Report: The piece is in good vintage condition, showing a superb natural patina of age. The historical text inside, the ink stamps and seals are completely clear, intact and perfectly legible. The brass hinges and the front latch are the original ones and are fully functional, ensuring a firm closure of the lid. Age-specific aesthetic defects (clearly marked in the photos): A fine hairline crack that naturally appeared on one of the upper rounded corners of the lid, which follows the wood grain and is stabilized. A fine vertical scratch in the lacquer layer on the back edge of the lid, near the hinge. Micro-scratches and slightly matted areas on the exterior lacquered surface due to handling over the decades. The wood shows no structural deformations or traces of mold, the box being perfectly preserved on the inside. A remarkable collector's piece for tobacco culture enthusiasts (Tobacciana) or a luxury historical box for storage decorative
