Henri Bargas - 胸像, Tête d’Enfant - 28 cm - Terracotta

Henri Bargas – Terracotta Child’s Bust “Tête d’Enfant”, Signed, Art Deco Period, France c. 1920-1930 A charming terracotta portrait bust of a young child, signed H. BARGAS on the square base. Henri Bargas was a Parisian sculptor active during the Art Deco period. He trained with André Vermare and collaborated with Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann and the animalier sculptor Édouard-Marcel Sandoz. His work is characterised by a refined classical style influenced by Greek art and the sculpture of Antoine Bourdelle. While best known for his heroic male figures and animal subjects, Bargas also produced sensitive portrait busts, of which this child’s head is a fine example. The bust is modelled with great attention to the soft curls and gentle expression of the child. It retains its original terracotta surface with a warm patina and light wear consistent with age. The square base is hollow, as is typical for Bargas’s terracotta works. Dimensions Height: 28 cm Width: approx. 13 cm Depth: approx. 13 cm Good overall condition. Minor surface wear and small marks consistent with age and handling. No major damage or restoration. Signature Clearly signed H. BARGAS on the front of the base. This is a genuine work by the recognised French Art Deco sculptor Henri Bargas and would suit a collector of early 20th-century French sculpture or decorative terracotta. Provenance Private collection, France. #Henri Bargas, #Bargas, #terracotta, #buste d’enfant, #tête d’enfant, #Art Deco sculpture, #French sculpture, #signed sculpture
