Description from the seller
西アジア系の護符ビーズで、岩晶を彫刻して動物の形に作られている。ビーズは丸みを帯びた胴と平らな底部から成り、そこから動物の首または上半身が上向きに曲がり、頭部を持ち上げている。顔の特徴は装飾的に表現されており、耳を象徴する二つの丸い突起と丸い口吻が描かれている。吊るすために丸い胴の下部を貫通している。表面には地衣類の付着と小さな擦り傷がある。耳の一つが欠けており、表面に欠片が見られる。体には髪の毛状の亀裂がある。
金の上にはカーネリアン、ターコイズ、岩晶などの石が宝飾として用いられていた。特に後者は繊細な透明性が評価され、器物や道具などにも用いられた。動物の表現は古代西アジア美術の主要な表現要素の一つを占めていた。とくに、野生動物や危険または力強いと見なされた生物の像は、新石器時代にさかのぼる古代西アジア美術の全時期に現れる。
