A superb terracotta roman mold-made oil lamp. Deep concave discus: a gladiator, standing and charging to his right wearing a crested helmet, bedecked with armor on the legs, and boots, and holding a long, rectangular shield in one hand and a sword in the other; single filling hole near center, on his back. Surrounded by a broad band of lines and grooves at edge. Decorative scrolling volutes extending from the angular nozzle. Base ring outlined by two concentric lines. Planta pedis (marker's mark) on the center. The gladiator is heavily armed and so can be recognized as a samnis (Samnite) or murmillo. Dimensions: 9,60 cm Condition: Surface wear on the edges but good condition. Provenance: French auction house. Formerly french private collection. Notes: - Due to customs issues this lot cannot be sold to swiss and US buyers. - The piece includes authenticity certificate. The piece will include spanish export license ( Passport for European Union). - If the piece goes outside the European Union a new export license will be requested by us, This process can take beteen 2 and 4 weeks. According to Spanish legislation, items sent outside the European Union are subject to export taxes and will be added to the invoice, at the buyer's expense. These export fees are fixed on the final auction price and the tax rate is not applied directly on the total value of the item to be exported, but rather the different percentages by sections are applied to it: - Up to 6,000 euros: 5%./ From 6.001 to 60.000 euros: 10%. - Shipped with Insurance.
