Viking Era Silver 滴形のお守りペンダント、浮き彫りドット装飾付き - 26 mm (No reserve price)
Material: Silver
Origin: Scandinavian / Baltic–Rus’ cultural sphere (Viking Age)
Dimensions: Height 26 mm; Width 13 mm
A compact Viking Age pendant formed from thin sheet metal into a tapering, drop-shaped body with an integral suspension loop. The surface is decorated in low relief with rows of raised dots made by repoussé punching from the reverse, creating a lively, beaded texture that catches the light. Light wear attest to long use and burial.
Function & context
Small sheet pendants like this were personal amulets, worn on cords or strung among glass, stone, and metal beads. In Viking dress they served as protective charms and badges of identity, and are found in graves and hoards across Scandinavia and the Baltic–Rus’ trade routes (10th–12th centuries). The dotted ornament belongs to the broader Norse taste for rhythmic, granular textures seen on pendants, mounts, and strap fittings of the period.
Manufacture
Hammer-raised from a single sheet, then detailed by punch work; the loop is formed from the same sheet and folded back for strength. The technique is typical of portable, affordable jewelry produced in quantity in the late Viking Age, standing alongside cast silver amulets in more precious forms.
Condition
Good wearable condition with attractive, even patina; minor dents, little restoration and an old pierce to the body; loop sound. Please review photos for a complete impression.
A modern necklace is included.
