ダニューブ川流域のケルトが模倣したアレクサンドロス大王の銀テトラドラクマ。表面には右を向くヘラクレスの横顔像が粗野な様式で刻まれ、裏面には左側に王座に座す Zeus（ゼウス）の粗野な像が、右手に鷲を、左手に杖を持つ姿が描かれていると推測される。
紀元前5世紀初頭には、ケルト人の部族が欧州の大半を支配しており、彼らの広範な戦闘史は多くの著名な文明や民族と交流した。ヘレニズム王国マケドンの伝説的王アレクサンドロス大王の下で、彼らは初めて貨幣としての支払いに出会い、やがて自分たちの coins を打つようになった。元来はギリシャ・ローマなどの通貨の複製だったが、のちには自分たちの好みや流行に合わせて foreign デザインを修正していった。アレクサンドロス大王自身とその通貨の評判と人気のため、彼の貨幣は初期の製造段階でケルト系部族に非常に人気のあるデザインとなった。
