ミニチュアのヘレニズム期のテラコッタ製オイルランプで、丸みを帯びた二凸形の胴部と中央に小さな充填孔を備える。孔を取り囲む隆起したリングから等間隔のジグザグ状の溝が肩部へ外側へ下方へ伸びる。胴部はノズルを台形へ細く絞り、円形の芯孔がある。オイルランプは平らな涙形の台座の上に置かれている。表面の地衣類の付着と、年齢相応の摩耗の兆候としていくつかの表面のパティング（微小な凹み）や scratches が見られる。ノズルの打痕・欠け。裏面には以前のコレクターの在庫番号が記されている。
古代には、ランプは元々 lychnus と呼ばれ、ギリシャ語 λυχνος に由来する。最古のローマのランプは紀元前3世紀にさかのぼるとされる。ローマ人が南イタリアのギリシャ植民地からランプのアイデアを得たと考えられている。ローマ帝国時代には、葬儀の儀式や公的な場面でランプを使用することが一般的になった。時が経つにつれてランプの製作は増え、装飾のバリエーションも増大し、主にランプの形と大きさに依存した。ディスカス面に描かれる典型的な装飾テーマは、娯楽の場面（戦う剣闘士など）、一般的な神話、動物などであった。陶器製のオイルランプは三つの方法で作られることがあった：手作り、腰繁（ろくねん）成形、あるいは型抜きによる製法。第三世紀BCに導入された粘土や石膏で作られた型の使用は、すぐに普及し、一本の型で複数のランプを作ることができた。
