ITEM: Samurai Armor — Description Helmet (Kabuto) The helmet bowl (hachi) is finished in a deep lacquered maroon-red with prominent vertical ridges (suji), giving it a ribbed, dome-like appearance. It is crowned with a gilt decorative cap (tehen kanomono). The most dramatic feature is the large gold crescent moon ornament (maedate) — a wa (ring) or mikazuki (crescent) shaped kashira adornment — mounted prominently at the front, symbolizing power and spiritual authority. The brim (mabizashi) is finished in beaten gold leaf. The neck guard (shikoro) consists of multiple horizontal lamellar rows in the characteristic gold-and-navy lacing pattern. Face Mask (Mengu / Sōmen) The face mask is a darkly lacquered iron piece of intense, fearsome expression — a classic ressei (angry expression) type. It features sculpted facial features, a rendered mustache with real hair details, and red-painted lips with visible teeth. A padded white chin guard (oshitsuke no ita) is wrapped around the lower face. The mask would have served both protective and psychological purposes on the battlefield. Chest Armor (Dō) The cuirass is constructed in the hon kozane (true small scales) lacing technique, with hundreds of individual gold-lacquered scales (kozane) laced together with navy blue silk cords (kebiki-odoshi), creating the distinctive alternating gold-and-dark striped pattern visible across the entire suit. Two prominent gold silk tassels hang from the chest, attached via decorative gold rings — purely ceremonial embellishments denoting high status. Shoulder Guards (Ō-sode) Large, rectangular shoulder guards constructed in the same kozane-and-lacing technique, providing both protection and a commanding visual silhouette. Arm Guards (Kote) and Gauntlets The arm protection consists of segmented gold-lacquered plates over chainmail, with the hands protected by articulated gold gauntlets showing individual finger plates. Hip and Thigh Guards (Kusazuri and Haidate) The skirt-like hip guards hang in multiple vertical panels, again in the matching kozane lacing. The upper thigh protectors display a honeycomb-pattern textile over padded foundations. Lower Leg Guards (Suneate) Vertical gold-lacquered splint guards bound with burgundy silk cords complete the leg protection. Family Crest (Mon) Visible in the macro details (images 13 and 18) is a round mon (family crest) embossed — a pattern of seven circles arranged in a flower/bubble formation, possibly the Ume no hana (plum blossom) or a similar clan badge, repeated across the structural fittings. Age and Style The overall design — the crescent maedate, the deep navy-and-gold kebiki-odoshi lacing, the bold sōmen mask, and the grand ō-sode — is consistent with Momoyama to early Edo period craftsmanship (late 16th – early 17th century), a time of great warlords and peak samurai martial culture. A samurai armor that will be the central focus of any room where it is placed and that will delight any fan of Japanese art. This exclusive piece is making it an incredible opportunity for any collector of Japanese, war or simply historical art to get their hands on a piece that will attract attention wherever it is displayed, from offices, to private homes, offices or restaurants and will give a regal look to any place. The armour has gilded details that show the quality of the piece. The incredible workmanship accentuates such ornate pieces as the kabuto, the mempo and the Do. The stand to assemble it and the box are included. This armour is sure to delight any collector of Asian art and will be the focal point of any visitor's home, shop or office. There is a very ancient object and there are damaged by time and tears. There is a possibility that parts may have been added later or that restoration occurred. Due to the delicacy of continuous assembly and disassembly, returns are not allowed on old armor.
