テラコッタで成形された、非常に優れたアッシリアの豊穣の女神アスタルテの statuette（像）。女神は正面を向いて立ち、細身の体つきが官能的な魅力を際立たせる。彼女は両手で乳房を包み込むように描かれており、授乳する母親や豊穣・出産との結びつきを示している。像には足首に一対のアンクレットも施されている。顔には二つの大きなアーモンド形の目が見える一方で、残る facial features は欠損しており識別不能。背面は滑らかで装飾がなく、足元へと曲線を描く。像は足首で折れて修復されており、ひび割れと接着剤の残留物がまだ見える。表面には長年の経年による地衣・汚れ、擦り傷・欠け（特に像の上部と裏面）・窪みといった使用痕がみられる。
アスタルテはしばしば女神イシュタル（アッカド語）またはイナンナ（シュメール語）と結びつけられる。紀元前二千年紀を通じてメソポタミアで最も重要な女性神であった。彼女は金星と日の出と同一視され、性の愛と戦争の女神として認識されていた。ギリシャ人は彼女をアフロディーテと同一視した。裸で描かれることが多く、時にはライオンととも、あるいは翼と太陽円盤と月の三日月を組み合わせた冠を戴いている。こうした像は懺悔献じ物として、受胎・出産を祈願する奉納品や、妊娠の確保・出産時の護符として用いられた。
