Ancient Egypt, Late Period Faience ウジャトの目(ホルスの目) - 2.5 cm
Finely crafted Udjat (Eye of Horus) amulet made of light turquoise-green Egyptian faience. Both sides are carefully modelled, displaying the stylized Eye of Horus with well-defined eyelid, eyebrow, and characteristic markings. The vibrant glaze and elegant proportions reflect the high quality of Late Period Egyptian faience production.
The Udjat Eye was one of the most important and widely used protective amulets in Ancient Egypt. It represents the eye of the god Horus, restored after his mythical battle with Seth, and symbolises healing, protection, wholeness, and regeneration. Such amulets were worn by both the living and the deceased to guard against illness, evil influences, and misfortune, and were commonly placed in burials as symbols of divine protection.
The amulet is pierced laterally for suspension and would originally have been worn as personal jewellery or incorporated into funerary equipment.
The surface retains an attractive and well-preserved turquoise-green glaze with a fine ancient patina.
Condition: Very good condition for its age. Minor age-related wear consistent with antiquity. Lateral suspension perforation intact.
Provenance: Formerly in the Madeleine & Erich Dammann Collection, Germany. Acquired during the owners' extensive travels between 1950 and 1970. Documented in Germany by 1970 and subsequently retained in continuous family ownership.
