WWI / WWII Genuine Antique Trench Lighter - Handcrafted Military Memorabilia - Numbered 7563 - With French Tax Stamp (Contributions Indirectes) Description: A highly significant and authentic piece of military and fiscal history, this is a genuine handcrafted petrol trench lighter dating back to the WWI or WWII era. This unique artifact features a completely detachable friction slip-on cap. A major highlight that elevates the historical value for collectors is the official, original French metal tax stamp (Sceau de taxe / Contributions Indirectes) welded onto the body. Following the French fiscal decree of December 10, 1910, all operational lighters in France were legally required to bear this official Ministry of Finance plate to certify that the luxury/excise duty had been paid. The lighter body is crafted from thick brass with a heavy dual-tone patina, while the upper ignition mechanism frame and spark wheel are made of steel. The bottom of the lighter is hand-stamped with the serial number "7563" alongside historical lead/tin solder points used to seal the fuel reservoir—a textbook characteristic of genuine frontline trench craftsmanship. Condition: Authentic, battle-worn vintage condition with an incredible, honest patina. The body is solid, and the reverse brass faces show a smooth, naturally aged surface with normal light oxidation and pocket wear. The detachable friction cap shows a minor vintage stress crack along its curved top edge, consistent with its age and manual metal-forming process. The steel mechanical top ignition wheel, the certified French tax stamp plate, and the original cotton wick remain completely intact, preserving the exceptional historical integrity of this rare wartime artifact.
