中世後期のピューター製スプーンで、浅い円形のボウルと、やや曲がる長い四角断面の柄を特徴とします。ボウルの基部には製作者印が見え、浮き上がった粒の周りに薄い十字が刻まれています。スプーンは暗色のパティネで覆われ、いくつかの染みがあります。
ピューターはローマ時代以来英国で用いられてきましたが、中世を通じてますます広く利用され、17世紀・18世紀に最盛期を迎えました。主に錫で構成され、他の金属を微量混ぜた、魅力的で多用途な合金でした。一般的に加えられた成分には銅、アンチモン、または鉛があり、いずれも金属の耐久性を高めました。1474年、産業の急速な拡大の中で品質管理を確保する目的で、ロンドンのピューター職人はエドワード4世によって王室の特許状を授与されました。その後設立された「The Worshipful Company of Pewterers（錫器職人組合）」は現在も活動を続けており、ピューター製品は英国で生産され、世界各地で販売されています。
