北イタリアのヴァレンツァ地方;1922年 – 2012年。「表面、色、光、象徴、物質と時間の継続的な対話」。カヴァッリによれば、これが芸術の定義である。著名な金細工師であり画家・彫刻家である彼は、その対話に生涯を捧げた。終わりなき実験への衝動は、卓越した職人技と合わさって、独自の抑制と比類なき調和を持つ抽象的な形を生み出し、20世紀中葉のイタリア美術の特質を反映している。カヴァリは人生を「任意の瞬間に生まれようとしている無限の世界」と考えた。貴重な素材だけでなく、形・質感・構成にも美を求め、彼はやがて金と宝石を捨て去り、より解放的なパレットへと移行した。木材・象牙・黒檀・鉄・アルミニウム・ニッケル・紙・布・プラスチックを組み合わせたものである。
