Deze kunt u er direct onder plakken: For auction: An original, hand-colored 18th-century optical print (Vue d’optique / Guckkastenbild) depicting a dramatic biblical scene: the destruction of the city of Jerusalem and its temple by King Nebuchadnezzar II, followed by the Babylonian captivity of the people of Israel. This copper engraving was published in Augsburg between 1755 and 1779 by the Kaiserlich Franziskische Akademie. It was specifically designed to be viewed through an optical peep-show box, which is evidenced by the characteristic mirrored French title at the bottom ("LA DESTRUCTION DE LA VILLE DE JERUSALEM"). When viewed through the box's mirror, the text appeared correctly. The top margins feature the full descriptive titles in both German and French. An identical copy of this print is preserved in the permanent collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (object number: RP-P-2009-789). Specifications: * Type: Optical print (Vue d'optique) * Technique: Hand-colored copper engraving * Period: ca. 1755 – 1779 (18th century) * Publisher: Kaiserlich Franziskische Akademie, Augsburg (Germany) * Condition: In good original condition with age-appropriate wear (please inspect the photos carefully for your own assessment). Crucially, the print retains its wide, untrimmed original margins, which is highly desirable for collectors.
