Structure and Terminal Features This is a classic open-style ornament formed from a thick, semi-circular band. The unique terminals (finials) of the bracelet deserve special attention. The arms taper smoothly into distinctive, heavily profiled ends. They are decorated with deep, transverse incisions that mimic a dense wrap or stylized animal heads. This brilliant design not only enhanced the aesthetic value but also made it easier to safely widen and adjust the ring to the arm. Decoration and Viking Blacksmithing Craftsmanship The surface of the bracelet is covered with an intricate, linear ornament that represents the essence of raw Scandinavian aesthetics. Deeply grooved, parallel ridges run along the entire circumference. An identical ribbing pattern and terminal finish style were discovered in the famous Viking settlement of Truso near Elbląg. Every line was applied with extraordinary care, perfectly showing the high skill of ancient blacksmiths. The ability to guide chisels and punches so evenly in hard metal was the domain of the most experienced craftsmen of the North. Condition and Patina The item is in excellent post-display and archaeological condition. Aggressive chemical cleaning was avoided to preserve its historical identity. The entire piece is covered with a thick, noble patina in deep shades of malachite green, earthy brown, and natural copper oxides. This proves a centuries-long process of mineralization in the ground. Dating and Chronology The object is strictly dated to the high Viking Age, between the 8th and 11th centuries AD. In its form and execution technique, it perfectly matches the style of great silver and bronze hoards discovered in Scandinavia and along the trade routes of Eastern Europe.
