However, if you require faster delivery, air shipping may be possible through a different carrier for an additional fee, so please contact us. 【Product details】 This Japanese katana is attributed to the Uda school and dates to around the late Nanbokuchō to early Muromachi period, approximately the late 14th to 15th century. The Uda school originated in Yamato Province and later flourished in Etchū Province, producing blades with distinctive historical character. The sword comes with an NBTHK Hozon Certificate issued on 1 December, Reiwa 7 (2025) by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai. The blade is attributed to Uda (宇多). A particularly notable feature is the heavily shortened tang. The two peg holes and cut-down tang end suggest that the blade was substantially shortened, possibly by around 15–20 cm. Although the present blade length is 66.6 cm according to the certificate, its original form may have been a large tachi of around 80 cm, a type closely associated with the Nanbokuchō period. While the NBTHK conservatively attributes the blade simply to Uda, the physical evidence suggests that it may have begun as a large transitional sword from the late Nanbokuchō to early Muromachi period. It was likely shortened later for use in closer combat on foot. The blade is unsigned and preserved in a plain wooden shirasaya. A silk sword bag is also included. The sword comes with a copy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, as the original document will be returned to the authorities. It is registered in Kumamoto Prefecture (No. 25520) as a katana, with a blade length of 67.0 cm, curvature of 1.3 cm, two peg holes, and no signature. The certificate was issued on 17 June 1968. The blade shows scattered rust, surface wear, and fine linear scratches. There is a very small chip near the tip, with noticeable black rust and corrosion around the monouchi. Some areas of the steel surface show roughness. The habaki has small scratches and patina. The shirasaya has dents, scuffs, old tape marks, and discolouration. The silk sword bag has small tears and blemishes. The display stand is not included. Please refer to the photos for details.
