1680モデルを置き換えるモデルを作るのは容易ではありませんでした。とはいえ、16610は1987年に五桁リファレンス番号を持つロレックスの最初期モデルのひとつとしてこの難題に挑戦しました。幸い、オイスターはケースを優れたバランスで維持できたため、デイト表示のSubmarinerモデルの中でこのケースを使用する最後のモデルとなりました。16610は非常に成功を収め、21年間の生産を経て――飲み物で祝える成熟年齢に達したのです。この過程でトリチウムからルミノヴァへの転換が行われました。転換後約1年間は、後の表現「SWISS MADE」ではなく、Luminovaダイヤルにはただ「SWISS」が記されるだけでした。

ダイヤルは同時代性は指定しない
ダイヤルは非常に清潔ですが、他の時計とこの時計を見分ける最大の美は間違いなくベゼルのゴースト形状です。
