カイアナイト、別名シアナイト、ディストンあるいはサパリットは、シリケートとゲルマネートを含む鉱物群に属する鉱物である。結晶系は三方晶系で、組成は Al2[O|SiO4]、化学的にはアルミニウムシリケートである。構造的には孤立シリケート（アイソルシリケート）に分類される。
カイアナイトは主に柱状から板状の結晶を作り、表面にはガラス状の光沢を示すことが多いが、繊維状や粒状から塊状の鉱物集合体としても見られる。純粋な状態では無色で透明である。しかし格子欠陥や多結晶性の影響による光の多重屈折のため、白く見えることもあり、外来成分の混入により淡青色から濃青色、青紫、緑がかった褐色、さらに稀に赤みを帯びた色をとり、透明度はそれに比例して低下する。
