NWA 18697 (L6 S3 W0) - メインマス(低風化コンドライト) - 2114 g

An excellent low weathering and oriented OC meteorite from the Sahara Desert, weighing over 2 kg is now available for sale. This is my latest classified ordinary chondrite and you will be buying from the main mass holder. The specimen displays a strong shield-shaped orientation. The back side is covered by shallow regmaglypts and has an ellipsoidal shape with lengths of the major and minor semi axes of 7 cm and 5 cm, respectively. The front side is covered with a thin, dark, desert varnished fusion crust on approximately two thirds of the surface through which sporadic chondrules and discrete regmaglypts are observed. After polishing the back side, the green-grey matrix shows abundant iron-nickel flakes and partially equilibrated chondrules of various sizes, as well as limonite staining on approximately 30% of the surface. Except for the type specimen required for classification and a few small sections which will remain with me, this is all there is of this meteorite. The buyer will also receive (upon request) a few microscope thin-section, cross-polarised light images taken by the classifier, showing various types of chondrules and the matrix of the specimen. I am a member of the Meteoritical Society (#7743) and have been collecting meteorites for over 15 years.
