バンバラ族の彫刻家は、チ-Wara協会の会員が身につける動物を模した頭飾りで名を馳せている。すべて異なるものの、それらはいずれも高度に抽象化された胴体を示し、ジグザグのモチーフを取り入れていることが多く、これは東から西へと進む太陽の通り道を表し、二本の大きな角を持つ頭部を伴う。

バンバラのチ-Wara協会の会員は、種をまく時期に畑で踊る際に頭飾りを着け、作柄の収穫量を増やすことを願う。
