古代の美しいブロンズ貨幣で、ユダヤ地域で鋳造され、聖書の物語にちなんで「寡婦の薄片（Widows Mite）」として知られている。この貨幣はユダヤ通貨で最も小さな denomination（小銭）としても知られ、lepton と呼ばれる。これら二枚はローマの quadrans に相当した。表面には王冠の中に八射の星が描かれている。裏面には錨と点線の縁があり、ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ の文字に囲まれている。おそらくアレクサンドル・ヤナイオスの治世下で鋳造されたが、キリストの生涯の間も流通していた。時代にふさわしい擦り減りの痕跡が見られる。
寡婦の薄片は『マルコによる福音書』41-44章の中で言及されており、献金の重要性を私たちの内に宿らせる。彼女が持っていたすべての富を捧げたことを、イエスはその寡婦の寛大さとして称賛し、それは富裕な男性たちの寄付よりも重要に見える。
