淡い緑色の釉薬を施したファイエンス製で、三つ編みのかつらとひげを身につけ、つるはしとくまでを手に持ち、背面に典型的な籠が彫り込まれている。シャブティ人形の主な機能は、死者が乾草の野(リードの野)という heavenly paradise である楽園で労働者として働くことを代替する役割を果たすことであったとされる。死者は来世でさまざまな作業を課せられると信じられ、シャブティ人形がその責務を代行する役割を担うと考えられていた。
