初期キリスト教 / ビザンツ帝国 Bronze 聖なるキリスト紋章アミュレットと60cmの銀チェーン (No reserve price)

A distinctive rectangular bronze Christian amulet, decorated on the obverse with an engraved geometric composition that can be interpreted as a stylized Chi-Rho (☧) or Christogram-inspired sacred symbol. The Chi-Rho, formed from the first two Greek letters of Christos (ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ), became one of the most important emblems of early Christianity following the age of Constantine the Great. It was associated with Christ, divine protection, faith and victory through the Cross. On this example, intersecting diagonal and vertical lines create a strongly cross-like monogrammatic design. The upper element adds to its enigmatic character and may form part of the abbreviated Christian symbolism. Because the design is highly stylized, I would describe it as Chi-Rho / Christogram-inspired rather than claiming a definite classical Chi-Rho. The reverse is undecorated, emphasizing the symbolic character of the engraved face. The amulet has a substantial rectangular form with rounded edges and preserves an attractive dark olive-green and brown patina with traces of surface wear and deposits. A fascinating piece of personal Christian devotional symbolism, now fitted with a modern suspension ring and chain so that it can once again be worn. Object: Devotional / protective amulet Material: Bronze Attribution: Early Christian / Byzantine tradition Decoration: Stylized Chi-Rho / Christogram-inspired motif Reverse: Plain Condition: Ancient-style surface wear and patination; see photographs Suspension: Modern ring and chain added for wearable presentation
