The Nikonos V of 1984 is the final and most refined of Nikon's amphibious 35mm cameras, a line descended from the Calypso designed by Jacques-Yves Cousteau's team. Waterproof to 50 metres without any housing, it added aperture-priority automatic exposure and TTL flash control to the rugged O-ring-sealed body, and its bright orange finish became an icon of 1980s dive photography. The UW-NIKKOR 20mm f/2.8 is a dedicated underwater wide-angle lens, corrected for the refraction of water, and is the optic many Nikonos photographers prized most. Long after production ended in 2001, the system remains the benchmark for film-era underwater photography. The lens aperture operates correctly. Known Issues 1. The camera does not power on, so the meter and automatic exposure do not function. 2. All manual shutter speeds fire at approximately 1/1000 regardless of the setting. The mechanical M90 (1/90) speed works correctly, so the camera is usable in manual flash / sunny-16 style shooting at those two speeds. 3.
