Het betreft een karakteristieke gracht met elegante gevels, wandelaars en een markante kerktoren op de achtergrond. De losse, trefzekere penseelvoering en het subtiele kleurgebruik geven het werk een levendige, atmosferische uitstraling waarin licht, reflecties en architectuur harmonieus samenkomen. Jan Schipper wist met een vlotte impressionistische toets de essentie van het stadsgezicht te vangen.
