伝統的なフラニ帽 - Burkina Faso (No reserve price)
Traditional Fulani hat (also known as a Tengaade or Peul herder’s hat), a distinctive cultural symbol originating in West Africa. Burkina Faso.
This practical and artistic piece is meticulously handcrafted. Its conical structure is woven from plant fibres (such as straw and elephant grass) and reinforced with genuine leather dyed black and brown along the brim, at the crown’s apex and in decorative geometric appliqués.
Traditionally worn by nomadic Fulani (Peul) herders, its tall conical crown and wide brim provide protection from the intense sun and rain during long journeys with their cattle. The leather ornament at the top also serves as a sturdy structural finishing element.
Beyond offering protection from the elements, this hat is a prestigious item of dress, worn with pride at ritual festivals and ceremonies (such as the celebrations of Wodaabe subgroups). Today, it is recognised worldwide as a masterpiece of African craftsmanship and tribal art.
