燧発式ピストル – オスマン帝国/北アフリカ地域、19世紀後半 – 骨と角の象嵌を施した総銃床 (No reserve price)

An original flintlock pistol with a fully inlaid stock, most likely of Ottoman-Balkan or North African manufacture. Flintlock arms of this type were produced in these regions from the 18th century through to the later 19th century, and an exact date cannot be established without a readable maker’s mark. Decorative. Most likely end of 19th. The walnut full stock is decorated throughout with bone and horn inlay – floral and dot panels along the lock area and butt, and running chevron bands along the forend and underside. Brass mountings comprise a ball pommel, a full-length grip strap and a trigger guard, all secured with hand-peened pins. The hand-forged lock retains its original cock, frizzen and frizzen spring, and carries a punched or lightly engraved mark on the lockplate, now partly worn. The mechanism is complete and in working order: the cock engages cleanly at both half-cock and full-cock. This is an unconverted flintlock, not a later percussion conversion. Smoothbore barrel with open muzzle. MEASUREMENTS: – Overall length: 39 cm CONDITION DETAIL: Good unrestored condition for its age. Warm patina on iron and brass. Scattered losses and age cracks in the inlay, slight wood shrinkage around barrel and lockplate – all consistent with a piece of this period. The upper jaw of the cock shows an old chip to one side, the left side being shorter than the right; this does not affect the function of the lock, which cocks and holds correctly at both positions. No ramrod present.
