DiscoveryはUKチャートで初のNo.1を獲得したELOの最初のアルバムでした。Confusion や Don't Bring Me Down のようなシングルリリースは当時シングルチャートを席巻しました。

アルバムのジャケットには、Out of the Blueのアルバムおよび以前のA new world recordで既に知られていた宇宙船が、好奇心旺盛な若者が巻き物を巻いたようなターバンを身につけたおもちゃのように映し出されています。しかし、ダブル・カバーを開くと全体の場面が初めてはっきりします。背景には男がサーベルを抜く姿が描かれ、カバーの内側には、砂漠で三人のサーベル使いの騎手から spaceship を抱えた少年が逃れる場面が描かれています。
