Item Description:
Two decorated Japanese pens celebrating cherry blossoms and the landscape of Mount Fuji. The set pairs the raised floral decoration of a Mitani pen with Sailor’s Yu-bi Maki-e design, a series that combines printed patterns with metallic powders applied by hand to selected details, bringing the colour and lustre of maki-e to everyday writing instruments.

1. Mitani – LIBERTY CB-10NGL, Cherry Blossoms
A capped pen with a glossy black body, gold-tone fittings and a richly detailed cherry blossom design. Pink and silvery blossoms spread along fine branches, accompanied by shimmering, iridescent accents.

The maki-e decoration stands noticeably proud of the surface. Viewed closely, the raised blossoms and branches give the design a striking sense of depth and presence against the black background.

The pen bears the markings “LIBERTY CB-10NGL” and “CERAMIC OHTO JAPAN” and features an OHTO ceramic-ball writing tip. It has been tested and produces ink.

Supplied with a box and instruction leaflet.

2. Sailor – Yu-bi Maki-e, Mount Fuji and Maple Leaves
A three-function pen combining black and red ballpoints with a mechanical pencil in a single body.

The metallic red body is decorated with a gold-tone Mount Fuji, a torii gate, flowing clouds and delicate silver-tone grasses. Maple leaves adorn the upper section, completing the autumnal scene. Silver-tone fittings complement the vivid red and gold design.

Supplied with a box and Japanese-language instructions.

Brand / Makers:
Mitani is a lacquerware company based in Kaga, Ishikawa Prefecture, with roots dating to 1830. Its work draws on the Yamanaka lacquerware tradition, applying its decorative expertise to products for contemporary life.

OHTO, whose name appears on the LIBERTY pen, is a Japanese writing-instrument manufacturer that introduced Japan’s first domestically produced ballpoint pen in 1949.

Sailor was founded in Kure, Hiroshima Prefecture, in 1911. With a history rooted in fountain-pen manufacture, the company also produces ballpoints, mechanical pencils and multifunction writing instruments.
