Description from the seller
VISION BOOK OF VISIONS Codex Vindobonensis 8629 with a text by Jorge Luis Borges. Volume 26 of the series "I segni dell'uomo" was printed in October 1980 by Franco Levi under the direction of Franco Maria Ricci. The type used is bodoni. The hand-made laid paper was prepared in the round form at the Miliani paper mills in Fabriano. This volume is No. 60 belonging to the first edition of three thousand numbered copies. Blue paper. The volume in the original slipcase is absolutely perfect. Black silk binding with titles impressed in gold and photo-application on the cover. The control tag is also preserved.
The volume presents the paintings for the grand funeral ceremonies of the Polish nobility with an important essay on the iconography by Mariusz Karpowicz. In addition to Borges’s prologue (which also signs "25 August 1983"), the captivating volume includes texts devoted to the world of the dead beyond our own: Plato, Cicero, Thomas Wright, Bede, Orderic Vitalis, Cervantes, Shakespeare, etc...
Magnificent color illustrations. I bought the book as soon as it came out, then put it back on the shelf; I opened it again only now for the photographs. Like new, absolutely perfect for a collection.
