It was a popular waist accessory for townsfolk (Chōnin) of that era. Complete set: Tiger-patterned Kiseru tube, 5-case Inrō, black lacquered bamboo Kiseru, together with coral carved Netsuke. Full configuration. The Kiseru tube is wood-based with black lacquer. The tiger motif is made by overlay decoration, depicting a tiger beneath the moon. This is a well-known auspicious Japanese motif, symbolizing protection and warding off evil influences. The Inrō is also wood constructed with black lacquer on the exterior. It features a 5-section stacked structure. The interior is finished in nashiji (梨地 / 金梨地) technique, and the outer surface is decorated with gold makie (蒔絵) patterns. The Kiseru is a Japanese smoking pipe. Its bamboo body is coated with multiple layers of black lacquer. Both ends are fitted with metal terminals with hand-chiselled nanako (魚子地) texture, retaining authentic aged handcrafted quality. Coral carved Netsuke acts as the cord stopper for this waist ornament. It is the original matching period piece, spherically carved with patterns and shows natural coral texture. This artwork combines multiple traditional crafts: lacquerwork, bamboo craft, metalwork and coral carving. It carries an elegant, understated wabi-sabi aesthetic of Japanese folk art. Suitable for Japanese antique display and specialist kiseru collection. Due to age, the lacquer on the Kiseru tube shows natural ageing, wear and minor signs of time. The Inrō bears noticeable friction and knocks from historic use. Metal terminals show natural oxidation. The coral Netsuke has natural worm cavities. No cracks, no repairs. Good condition considering its age.
